General Remediation Permit
Underground injection wells play a critical role in treating and remediating contaminated aquifers throughout the State of Nevada. The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) administers two general permits, one long‑term and one short‑term, to authorize these activities.
Aquifer remediation using underground injection is typically prescribed by NDEP’s Bureau of Corrective Actions (BCA) as part of an approved remediation plan; while permitting and regulatory oversight are provided by the Bureau of Water Pollution Control (BWPC). These two bureaus work collaboratively to ensure that injection activities are properly managed, monitored, and protective of groundwater resources.
Below are the 2025 reissued short‑term and long‑term general remediation permits, along with their corresponding fact sheets outlining each permit’s purpose, authorized activities, and recent updates.
