Applications, Renewals, and Payments
Individuals interested in becoming certified in Nevada as an environmental manager (CEM), underground storage tank handler (UTH), underground storage tank tester (UTT), or as a provider of an approved underground storage tank training program must submit an application and pay the required fee outlined in NAC 459.972 to NAC 459.97232.
All applications, supporting documentation, and any required exam registrations are submitted and processed using the Nevada Environmental Activities online system located at: https://nevadaenvironmentalactivities.ndep.nv.gov To access the above system, you will need to create an account. The system’s homepage includes a link to a User Guide that can be refenced for Account Access.
New Applicants
Log into your Nevada Environmental Activities account. For new account users, you should see a link near the bottom of the screen to start a new application. You can also click on the Certifications tab, select the Apply for Certification button, and click the certification type for which you wish to apply. Upon submittal, your application will be evaluated against the criteria outlined in state regulations. It is important that all applications be filled out completely, as Certification Program staff have six weeks after receipt of all application materials to complete their review. Following the application review, applicants will receive an e-mail notification on the determination of eligibility or a request for additional information/clarification of your submitted application packet, if necessary.
Upon submitting the application, an invoice will be created in the Nevada Environmental Activities system that can be downloaded or printed. The non-refundable application fee is $150 and must be paid before Certification Program staff with begin review of the application. Refer to the ePayment section below to expedite payment.
Exam Requirement for New Certified Environmental Manager Applicants
If you are applying to be a CEM and your application is accepted, you have two years to register, attend, and pass the CEM exam. Once you have passed the exam, you will receive a certificate and be added to NDEP’s list of certified individuals . If the exam is not passed within two years, applicants must file a new application with a new application fee. The non-refundable CEM exam fee is $200. If an exam must be retaken, the $200 fee must be paid again.
Please visit the CEM Exam Information webpage to learn more about the CEM exam.
Renewal Applicants
NDEP certifications are valid for two years. To remain certified, you must submit a renewal application prior to the expiration date. If a lapse occurs, you cannot continue to provide services for which certification is required in the State of Nevada. No exceptions. Program staff have six weeks to review an application for renewal, so early submittal is recommended to ensure a lapse in your certification status does not occur. Once your application is approved, you will receive a new certificate with updated expiration date and continue to be listed on NDEP’s list of certified individuals.
To submit a renewal application, log into your Nevada Environmental Activities account. Upon submitting the renewal application, an invoice will be created that can be downloaded or printed. The non-refundable application fee is $150 and must be paid before Certification Program staff with begin review of the application. Refer to the ePayment section below to expedite payment.
Note: It is the responsibility of the certification holder to apply for renewal in a timely manner. If you fail to renew your certification within one year of the expiration date, you will have to reapply as a new applicant.
Continuing Education for CEM Renewals
In addition to the renewal application and paying the required fee, individuals renewing their environmental manager certification must also demonstrate 24 hours of continuing education. Certification Program staff will verify documentation of continuing education as part of the CEM renewal application within the Nevada Environmental Activities online system. CEMs must upload this documentation along with their application or as credit is earned using the Manage Continuing Education Units transaction in the system. A User Guide is available for this transaction.
Please visit the Continuing Education webpage for detailed information on continuing education requirements, eligible activities for credit, and acceptable methods to receive credit.
NDEP Online E-payment System
Applicants may choose to pay their certification program invoices electronically using the NDEP ePayment system. Note, the ePayment system is separate from the Nevada Environmental Activities system where invoices are created. To make an electronic payment, you will need to create a separate user account.
Use of the ePayment system is not required. Payment by check is also accepted. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT PAYMENTS WITHOUT AN INVOICE. The invoice access code should be used for electronic payments and a hard copy of the invoice should be mailed with checks.
