About BWQP — The Bureau of Water Quality Planning (BWQP) is responsible for several water quality protection functions which include collecting and analyzing water data, developing standards for surface waters, publishing informational reports, providing water quality education and implementing programs to address surface water quality.

BWQP Programs / Branches
The Water Quality Standards Branch — is responsible for developing and reviewing water quality standards; determining total maximum daily loads and wasteload allocations from point sources; and determining load allocations from nonpoint sources.

The Monitoring Branch — is responsible for the State's water quality monitoring program. This branch maintains and updates water quality data for the national water quality data base (Water Quality Exchange Network - WQX) and is responsible for preparation of Nevada's Water Quality Assessment Report which is required under Section 305(b) of the Clean Water Act (CWA).

The Nonpoint Source (NPS) Pollution Management Program — is the lead agency for controlling nonpoint sources of pollution in Nevada. Nonpoint source (NPS) pollution results from a variety of diffuse and dispersed human activities.

The Lake Tahoe Watershed Program — is the NDEP program collaborating with the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Lahontan Region (Lahontan Water Board) to protect Lake Tahoe as a water of extraordinary aesthetic or ecologic value.
