Education Requirements for Certification

Water Treatment or Distribution Operator-In-Training (OIT) Grades 1 and 2:
No post secondary education required.

Water Treatment or Distribution Operator-In-Training (OIT) Grade 3:
72 hours of college level courses related to water or training approved by International Association of Education Training (IACET).
Proof of completed training must be submitted for review and approval.

Water Treatment or Distribution Operator-In-Training (OIT) Grade 4:
144 hours of college level courses related to water or training approved by International Association of Education Training (IACET).
Proof of completed training must be submitted for review and approval.

Water Treatment or Distribution Full Certification Operator Grades 1 and 2:
No post secondary education required.

Water Treatment or Distribution Full Certification Operator Grade 3:
72 hours of college level courses related to water or training approved by International Association of Education Training (IACET).
Proof of completed training must be submitted for review and approval.

Water Treatment or Distribution Full Certification Operator Grade 4:
144 hours of college level courses related to water or training approved by International Association of Education Training (IACET).
Proof of completed training must be submitted for review and approval.

Renewal Requirements for both an OIT and Full Certification Operator

Water Treatment or Distribution Operator Grades 1 and 2:
Requires five (5) contact hours (0.5 CEU’s) within the renewal period for each certificate.
Ten (10) contact hours (1.0 CEU’s) are required if you hold two certificates.
Proof of completed training must be submitted for review and approval.

Water Treatment or Distribution Operator Grade 3:
Requires ten (10) contact hours (1.0 CEU’s) within the renewal period for each certificate.
Twenty (20) contact hours (2.0 CEU’s) are required if you hold two certificates.
Proof of completed training must be submitted for review and approval.

Water Treatment or Distribution Operator Grade 4:
Requires ten (10) contact hours (1.0 CEU’s) within the renewal period for each certificate.
Twenty (20) contact hours (2.0 CEU’s) are required if you hold two certificates.
Proof of completed training must be submitted for review and approval.

** The regular renewal period of any certificate is two (2) years. However, if you receive a certificate during any time in a given year, it will expire December 31st of the following year. The next renewal is then due two (2) years later. For example, if you receive a certificate on September 12, 2007, it will expire December 31, 2008. The next renewal will then be due December 31, 2010 and every 2 years thereafter.

Reinstatement of Expired Certificates (ANY RENEWAL RECEIVED AFTER DECEMBER 31st)

An OIT cannot be reinstated.
A full certificate can be reinstated within six (6) months after expiration date.
Proof of the required continuing education units is required.
To reinstate, the fee is $100.00 ($70 late fee + $30 renewal fee).
